GAP Connah's Quay Nomads advanced to the last 16 of the Genero Adran Trophy with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Berriew on September 13. The win came as the club also moved to bolster its attacking options with the signing of forward Renee Day.

Rosie Hughes, a recent signing, opened the scoring after 20 minutes. The first quarter of an hour had been fairly even, but Nomads grew into the game and Hughes broke the deadlock.

Berriew had a chance to level from the penalty spot, but goalkeeper Faye Moseley produced an excellent save to preserve the lead. Mel Barlow then doubled the advantage just before half-time with a spectacular effort from near the halfway line.

Aimee Redfern, introduced at the interval, scored her first goal of the season five minutes into the second half. She converted a free-kick delivered by Barlow to seal the 3-0 result. Seren Cashen also came on at half-time as part of several changes made to rotate the squad ahead of the league season.

The victory provides a positive boost as the first team prepares for its next Cymru Premier fixture. GAP Connah S Quay FC currently sit fourth in the standings with 22 points from 10 games, having won three of their last five matches. The team's next assignment is a significant away trip to face league leaders The New Saints on October 31, a key test for a side looking to close a six-point gap at the top.

Off the pitch, the club has added forward Renee Day to its ranks. The 25-year-old has made 50 appearances in the Adran Premier for clubs including Pontypridd United and Briton Ferry Llansawe. She has already scored five goals in her first two games for the Nomads Under-19s side in the North East Wales League.
